Mother’s Day this year falls mid-way through March on the 22nd. So if you’re heading up to the Lakes and celebrating Mother’s Day, why not stay the weekend and really indulge mum?
You could book in for a weekend break from Friday to Monday, or if you’ve a bit more time, we have 4 and 7 day breaks available.
We’ve lots of lovely lodges to choose from, and mum might enjoy a hot tub to relax in, or one where she can bring the pooch.

If you can’t make Mother’s Day weekend, why not treat her to a Gift Voucher so that she can choose when she’d like to come and stay? They last for 2 years and you can download it yourself, or have one posted out in a gift envelope. What better surprise than money towards a lovely lodge escape in the Lake District. Our breaks start from £250 and are the very best way to enjoy the stunning Lake’s scenery. There’s no better way of shaking off the stresses of mum-life than a lovely Hot Tub escape. . . ahhh bliss.
If your mum likes afternoon tea, there are scores of places to try in the Lakes. From posh hotels to cute cafes, fabulous farms, tea-rooms and pubs, to distilleries and breweries, everyone is busy making their own afternoon tea with a twist.
A few of our favourites are The Gaddum at Brockhole on Windermere; Low Sizergh Barn, near Kendal; Chesters by the River, Ambleside; The Fizzy Tarte in Bowness; The Lakes Distillery, Bassenthwaite; Hawkshead Brewery & Beer Hall in Staveley, who also do Cumbrian ‘Tapas’: and finally the Wild Boar at Crook, near Kendal, who offer a more savoury afternoon tea. Whatever you’re after you’ll not go hungry in Cumbria. The only issue will be being spoilt for choice…
Love on a Boat
If the weather’s good, why not take mum out on a Lake Cruise – choose from Windermere, Ullswater, Coniston and Derwentwater. Cruises can be given as gift vouchers too; choose from two different Family Cruises with Windermere Lake Cruises. Combine a cruise on Ullswater with a cream tea at Inn on the Lake or Dalemain Historic Mansion and Gardens, both of which are places that mum will love.
Or perhaps it is a walk in the park that you’d like to enjoy with your loved one this Mother’s Day. Borrans Park, Ambleside, has wonderful views over Lake Windermere and Rothay Park in Ambleside is great for families with little kids who will enjoy a push on the swing with mum. In Keswick, the flower-filled Hope Park is a beautiful place to take a rug and spend quality time together, before heading to the lakeshore. For fun mums, take them to Whinlatter Forest Wild Play for 9 different play zones! The gardens at Brockhole on Windermere are one of the best Arts & Crafts gardens in the UK and spring is a super time to see the beautiful blossom on their Hankerchief Tree!
There are so many ways to show love this Mother’s Day but you can’t beat quality time spent together. For more ideas of where else to take your mum whilst you’re here, check out our Things to Do pages and book your Mother’s Day Weekend here.
