Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway is a historic railway dating back to the 1850\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Many of us love a ride on a steam train, the sounds, sights and smells are very evocative and take us back to a bygone age – this historic line ticks all the boxes. It’s also all enclosed so is great whatever the weather. You’ll enjoy scenic views traveling past the most southern end of Lake Windermere into Lakeside.\u00a0You can pick up the train at either end, – Backbarrow on the A590, or Lakeside itself.\u00a0You may even wish to break your journey to explore the area and return later.<\/p>\n
Right next door to the Lakeside stop is the Aquarium of the Lakes, and the jetty for Windermere Lake Cruises, so you can make a full day out just from this southern end of Windermere. You’ll also find lots of options for food and drink – at the Aquarium, or the nearby Lakeside Hotel, and a bit of shopping. Then jump back on a later train to Haverthwaite, to browse through the engine shed full of locomotives.<\/p>\n
A must for all steam buffs and kids of all ages.<\/p>\n
