{"id":557,"date":"2017-12-13T12:54:15","date_gmt":"2017-12-13T12:54:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ldlh.cottage-search.com\/blog\/brockhole-visitor-centre-gardens\/"},"modified":"2023-12-04T15:20:42","modified_gmt":"2023-12-04T15:20:42","slug":"brockhole-visitor-centre-gardens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lakedistrictlodgeholidays.co.uk\/blog\/brockhole-visitor-centre-gardens\/","title":{"rendered":"Brockhole Visitor Centre &#038; Gardens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brockhole Visitor Centre and Gardens is found right on the A591, next to White Cross Bay where many of our lodges are situated.\u00a0 There is a magnificent house, built by William Gaddum, a silk merchant from Manchester, who had it designed for him and his family in the late 1890&#8217;s as a summer home.\u00a0 Beatrix Potter occasionally visited, as William was married to Emily &#8211; Beatrix&#8217;s cousin&#8230;!<\/p>\n<p>There are lovely grounds covering 30 acres, and stretching right down to the lakeshore, with 10 acres of formal gardens, designed by Thomas Mawson, internationally renowned as a key influence during the Arts &amp; Crafts movement.<\/p>\n<p>The terrace enjoys a beautiful view of the famous Langdale Pikes: Pike of Stickle and Harrison Stickle,<\/p>\n<p>There are regular garden walks, and garden open days each year. See\u00a0<strong><a title=\"What's on\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brockhole.co.uk\/events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">what&#8217;s on<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0for more details.<\/p>\n<p>Head down to the lakeshore, and you can walk right out &#8216;into&#8217; the lake, on the jetty.\u00a0 Here too you can pick up a steamer and head off all around the lake on a cruise.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s so much to do here &#8211; adventure playground, Tree Top Trek and Tree Top Nets; indoor play; a cafe serving local food; a shop with interesting gifts and books; a variety of exhibitions and displays;\u00a0 mini-golf, pony rides; archery; boat and bike hire; and their new attraction &#8216;Brave the Cave&#8217;.\u00a0 A caving experience for adventurer&#8217;s from ages 5-8, where your little ones get\u00a0kitted up with helmet and head torch,\u00a0ready to take on the challenge. They&#8217;ll discover ancient cave paintings; hidden creepy creatures and even navigate the cave in complete darkness.
