They&#8217;ve also previously topped the Guardian Readers&#8217; tips on the best farm shops in the UK, and featured in the Times Top Ten UK Farm Shops.<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Seen as a local treasure <span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">on the southern edge of the <\/span>Lake District, Low Sizergh Barn is home to 170 strong herd of red, brown, black &amp; white cows (cross breed of Holsteins, Viking Red and Montbeliards) <span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">You can watch them being milked from 3.30pm daily from the gallery windows in the caf\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Low Sizergh Barn has been owned and operated by the <strong>Park family<\/strong> for over 40 years, and their Farm Shop is in its 4th decade.\u00a0 Set in a 17th-century Westmorland stone barn, the farm shop showcases a host of produce from the farm and from <strong>Growing Well<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211; a mental health charity and organic fruit and vegetable farm.\u00a0 Low Sizergh also stocks produce from the county&#8217;s <strong>growers and makers<\/strong>, and <strong>artisan food producers nationally.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1087\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1087\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1087\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lakedistrictlodgeholidays.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/12\/Farm-Shop-Interior-at-Low-Sizergh-Barn-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1087\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Farm Shop interior<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Alison Park told us: \u201cWe are so proud of the award for <strong>food retailer of the year<\/strong> as it shows just how hard our farm shop and caf\u00e9 team have worked through really challenging times.\u00a0 The staff went above and beyond to ensure our customers still had access to wholesome food.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1064\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1064\" class=\"wp-image-1064\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lakedistrictlodgeholidays.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2021\/12\/Kendal-Creamy-from-Low-Sizergh-Barn-Farm-Shop-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"562\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1064\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kendal Creamy Cheese<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cAt the start of the pandemic, we created a completely new service with phone shopping and collection or delivery, and online ordering. We also created a range of <strong>tasty ready meals<\/strong> made from scratch in the kitchens and suitable for the freezer so people could order, and we delivered to local relatives for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the caf\u00e9 closed we decided to get creative with our outdoor takeaway area, adding seating when permitted, along with gazebos up tables &amp; chairs, trying to meet <strong>community needs<\/strong> as local people have long used us as a meeting place, whether to enjoy a hearty <strong>Farmer\u2019s Breakfast<\/strong>, lunchtime special, afternoon tea, or a chat over a brew and cake. We\u2019ve tried hard to make that experience as normal as possible, whilst keeping folk safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the food front, the farm shop has always been about bringing local people together with the people who grow and produce their food. Their<strong> award-winning cheeses are made with the farm\u2019s milk, and many of the vegetables and salad leaves sold are grown by on-site<\/strong> mental health charity, <strong>Growing Well<\/strong> who also operate a crop-share scheme for local people.
