Enjoyable stay.
Enjoyable stay.

Stephen “We have been on many lodge holidays with you including Sykes Cottages, mostly to either Limefitt or White Cross.”
This time we decided to look further a field, for a change more than anything else. We found High Borrans on your site and were drawn to Spinny Lodge, as it looked fantastic and also allowed dogs. The website overview, on both this location and the lodge, did not do either justice. The lodge was located on a working farm and it was fantastic to be surrounded by sheep and new born lambs. The owner of the lodge, Cathy, came and welcomed us and after letting her know it was our wedding anniversary and that my wife has always wanted to bottle feed a new born lamb, she made this happen. We cannot thank Cathy enough for this, as she went out of her way to accommodate. Spinny lodge was like home from home, it is definitely one of the cleanest lodges we have ever stayed in and it had all the creature comforts. Broadband was excellent, cleanliness was fantastic, the entire lodge had all expected facilities. We would highly recommend High Borrans to anyone wanting to be in a tranquil location, with fantastic views and within easy access of all Lake District locations. Thorough enjoyed the week and will definitely be booking this location again, thank you Cathy. Regards, Steve and Mhairi Rea from Wakefield.
- Stephen, May 2022Amanda “The lodge was spotlessly clean and finished to a high standard with everything you could possibly need.”
Lovely peaceful place but only a few miles out of Windermere. We had our two dogs with us and just behind the lodge was a public bridleway on to a lovely area to walk, very quiet not a busy tourist walking area, so the dogs especially loved it. The birds singing was the only noise to be heard and it was lovely. We were very comfortable in this lodge in this lovely area and will be back for another chilled relaxed break at some point in the future. Highly recommended.
- Amanda, April 2022Clive “Quiet site, clean, warm and comfy lodge, walking from the door, easy access to Windermere and beyond and towels for wet, muddy dogs.”
Great!
- Clive, April 2022Sarah “Thank you for a wonderful stay.”
The Spinney lodge was lovely to come back to after a long day of hiking. It had everything we needed, and the fire gave the cabin a warm and cosy vibe in the evenings. It was lovely opening the curtains in the morning to see pheasants and other wildlife just outside. We’re looking forward to our next visit!
- Sarah, January 2022Thank you for your valued feedback. We are glad to see that you enjoyed your stay in the English Lakes. We look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner
Lola “The lodge was incredibly clean and had everything we needed.”
The location is great, close enough to key spots to venture out but nice to feel like you are out of the way in the countryside. Lovely and quiet. The kitchen was fully equipped and the lodge was very warm and cosy. We loved our stay and will definitely return! As dog owners, we were thrilled to find such a lovely spot with dog-friendly cabins available and a nice walk directly from the site. There is even an outdoor hose to clean the dogs off after a long walk and dog towels available for use. Great touch! The host Cathy is very friendly and accommodating. Cathy introduced herself to let us know how to contact her if needed and left us to enjoy our stay. Looking forward to our next trip!
- Lola, November 2021Thank you for your kind words, Miss Johnson. High Borrans, Spinney is a stunning lodge and the location is simply fantastic. A great place to stay. We look forward to welcoming you again in the near future. Property Owner
Gemma “Lovely lodge in a brilliant setting.”
Had everything we needed. Great base to explore the lakes.
- Gemma, October 2021Joyce “Only 10 minute drive to Windermere and other locations are not too far to drive to.”
Cottage had everything you needed, clean, spacious and felt cosy on the rainy days. Bridle path walk just behind the cottages. Directions to get to the cottages were accurate and signposted in the lanes. Would definitely return, hoping for better weather next time.
- Joyce, September 2021Thank you for the positive review of the lodge and the park and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner
J “High Borrans Lodges are superb.”
We stayed in Dell and our daughter stayed in Spinney. The owner, Cathy, went out of her way to make our stay one to remember. Cathy went above and beyond what was expected and we thank her for all her help. The lodge was immaculately clean and presented beautifully. Lovely walks just behind the lodges with stunning views. Very well equipped laundry room too. The only bad thing about this holiday was having to leave. Thanks Cathy.
- J, September 2021Beverly “We stayed in Spinney and had a brilliant week there.”
It was cosy and a home from home. The kitchen was well equipped and there was a little freezer inside the fridge. The only issue we had was the wifi barely worked for us, but we didnt bother raising it as we actually liked being able to switch off.
- Beverly, August 2021Zoe “This was our second stay at high borrans, we stayed in the Dell last time.”
As it was my birthday and I love a good bath we went for the spinney this time and it did not dissapoint! Everything was spotless and we didnt need to bring anything, all tea/coffee ect was provided! All the utensils including a pizza cutter. It's the perfect base for a trip to the lakes, we enjoyed being able to sign into our netflix at the evenings and catch up on some series! Another perfect stay at high borrans!
- Zoe, August 2021Thank you for your feedback, we are delighted to hear of how much you enjoyed your stay. Spinney is a fantastic lodge in an amazing location which is ideal for a relaxing break. We are delighted to hear of how much you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back. Property Owner
Rebecca “This is the second time we have stayed in this lodge and will 100% be back again.”
Exceptionally clean, excellent facilities and in a great location.
- Rebecca, August 2021Phoebe-lily “We had a lovely stay in the lakes.”
The lodge was exceptionally clean on arrival. It's lovely how you have thought of dogs by adding the hose pipe and dog towel facilities. The bathroom is lovely and the bed is so comfortable. The lodge was very well equipped, however might I suggest that you add a pizza cutter to the kitchen and conditioner in the bathroom. I decided to have a bath on the last night of our stay, however the water was cloudy and had a pale green colour to it. It did not smell, so I decided to get into the bath as I wanted to use it, however I felt I needed to shower afterwards due to the green colour of the water. I am not one to complain, especially when everything else in the lodge was so lovely. Thank you for our stay, our dog also had the best time and we would love to come back.
- Phoebe-lily, July 2021Thank you for the review. We are so pleased to hear you had a lovely stay. This is a delightful lodge that’s beautifully presented for guests to simply relax and unwind. That said we are sorry to hear you had an issue with the water. We have advised the owners and we are sure any issue will have been quickly addressed. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. We have also passed on your suggestion for a pizza cutter. High Borrans, Spinney is a great place to stay and perfect too for our four legged friends. We hope to welcome the three of you again soon. Property Owner
Amy “The lodge is very well designed and comfortable all around with a nice comfortable bed, lovely bathroom and well equipped kitchen.”
We had a wonderful stay enjoying the country atmosphere provided by the location and the general feel of the lodge. In the evenings we enjoyed relaxing in the living room; the television was slightly small but did the job just fine. The property was very clean and cared for. There are only a few very mild criticisms / comments to bear in mind: - the bedroom window either did not open or was very stiff (we couldn’t manage to get it open) - there is only one oven tray which may be a pain for some if cooking a larger meal (otherwise very well equipped) - the plugs in the bedroom are fixed to the wall by nails that mean you can’t plug in certain shaped plugs. This was slightly annoying as it meant I could only use one of the sockets. - no conditioner provided (very minor point) Otherwise we were very happy with our stay and enjoyed the experience:
- Amy, July 2021Tara “I would definitely stay at Spinney, High Borans again.”
The cabin was lovely. Really clean and had all the amenities you would need for a self catered stay. We took our dog and there was an enclosed terrace which was handy. Lovely walks behind the accommodation too.

High Borrans is in an idyllic location, quiet and peaceful yet at the same time convenient when you want to get out-and-about; the free-roaming sheep are a particular highlight! The lodge was fabulous, it has everything we needed and was spotless. We stay in the lakes alot, lodges and holiday homes and camping; and this had to be one of the nicest stays yet! Thanks Cathy for making our lodge so cosy and comfortable. We didn't want to leave. The dog enjoyed it too. She loved running about on the decking and all the walks. We had quite a bit of rain, but in the lakes there is no such thing as bad weather..just inappropriate clothing! We stuck on our waterproofs and had some lovely walks straight from the property. . However, since changing letting agents last year, the lodge has become quite pricey for a holiday for two which may prompt some (your reviewer included) to not make The Spinney their first choice - a shame as it really is an ideal property for anyone seeking comfort and seclusion.
