Brockhole Visitor Centre and Gardens is found right on the A591, next to White Cross Bay where many of our lodges are situated. There is a magnificent house, built by William Gaddum, a silk merchant from Manchester, who had it designed for him and his family in the late 1890’s as a summer home. Beatrix Potter occasionally visited, as William was married to Emily – Beatrix’s cousin…!
There are lovely grounds covering 30 acres, and stretching right down to the lakeshore, with 10 acres of formal gardens, designed by Thomas Mawson, internationally renowned as a key influence during the Arts & Crafts movement.
The terrace enjoys a beautiful view of the famous Langdale Pikes: Pike of Stickle and Harrison Stickle,

Head down to the lakeshore, and you can walk right out ‘into’ the lake, on the jetty. Here too you can pick up a steamer and head off all around the lake on a cruise.
There’s so much to do here – adventure playground, Tree Top Trek and Tree Top Nets; indoor play; a cafe serving local food; a shop with interesting gifts and books; a variety of exhibitions and displays; mini-golf, pony rides; archery; boat and bike hire; and their new attraction ‘Brave the Cave’. A caving experience for adventurer’s from ages 5-8, where your little ones get kitted up with helmet and head torch, ready to take on the challenge. They’ll discover ancient cave paintings; hidden creepy creatures and even navigate the cave in complete darkness. Badges will be awarded to all who succeed and Brave the Cave!
