Go Ape is a fantastic adventure playground, high in the trees, with locations right across the UK, but with two Cumbrian locations at Grizedale and Whinlatter Forests.
Whinlatter, England’s only true Mountain Forest, has stunning views, fantastic walks, exhilarating mountain biking, wildlife and adventure play. Tree Top Adventure here gives you two to three hours in the trees taking on Zip Wires, Tarzan Swings, Rope Ladders and a variety of obstacles and crossings. Whinlatter is Go Ape’s highest course with the cabin 318m/1043ft above sea-level. The European Larch forest was planted in the 1920’s and as they are deciduous, many other trees have grown on the forest floor giving the course a real feel of being ‘in the trees’. The Zip Wires at this high ropes course feel especially fast as you fly inches away from the foliage, giving that extra little bit of adrenalin ! Why not spend a day here in the North Lakes there’s so much to do and you might even see the Bassenthwaite ospreys.
Grizedale Forest is south of Hawkshead and east of Coniston Water. Here you can enjoy a Zip Trekking Adventure – a network of seven tandem zip lines that cross through the Douglas Firs of our Cumbrian hideaway. This is a High Ropes course for all the family including Zip Wires, Tarzan Swings, Rope Ladders and a variety of obstacles and crossings. Set in a forest of sky-scraping Douglas Firs, Grizedale is not for the fainthearted, mainly due to its vertigo-inducing 19 metre platforms. There are 2 Zip Wires which fly over the road below!
There will be children’s options at both locations which are on a lower level, but still giving the exhilaration of the experience.
Prices vary depending on which GO APE you choose. They also of course, offer team-building days; and school parties. You can buy gift vouchers too.
Tips: Allow plenty of time to get to the two forests, as they are obviously tucked away along country lanes, and can be busy in the summer.
Why we like it: Those of us who love adrenalin in particular enjoy the zip wires! Those of us who don’t love the cafe serving delicious home made food. 🙂
