Grizedale Visitor Centre

Grizedale Forest is in the heart of the Lake District between Windermere and Coniston.  Head for Hawkshead and climb up into the fells, enjoying the feeling of truly being off the beaten track and surrounded by forests and woodland.

There’s lots to do at Grizedale Forest and you could easily spend a day here.  Have a wander along the sculpture trail, swing through the trees on GoApe, enjoy delicious food and snacks in the Grizedale Forest Café or explore further with exhilarating mountain bike rides. There is bike hire available at the Grizedale Forest Visitor Centre  -and they even hire electric bikes if you want to take the strain a little!

There are 8 waymarked walking trails ranging from the easy access Ridding Wood Trail to the strenuous Silurian Way, with forty sculptures across the Grizedale Forest to discover. Cyclists can try the North Face single track mountain bike trail as well as the many forest roads.

Grizedale Mountain Bike offer cycle hire, including children’s bikes and trailers and a shop for bikes and accessories.

After all that activity head down to the Grizedale Cafe for tasty snacks and meals, with take-away option too.
The Forestry Commission has an extensive guided activity programme ranging from badger watching to children’s activities plus education programmes.  Check the website for details and you’ll find lots of things happening during the usual school holiday times.
Grizedale also plays host to a wide range of events from car rallies to mountain bike races.
