Lakeland Motor Museum has an impressive collection of 30,000 exhibits, which includes 140 classic cars and motorbikes covering road transport through the 20th Century, cycles, motorbikes, motor cars and ‘automobilia’.

There’s a large indoor exhibition including Campbell Bluebird Displays, Authentic Automobilia and then take a trip down memory lane with recreated scenes of a 1920’s garage and 1930’s café.

You’ll find the Lakeland Motor Museum in a converted mill in the heart of the Lake District,  minutes from Lake Windermere and offer joint tickets with Windermere Lake Cruises and other local attractions.

As well as a history of motor transport, the displays cover a fascinating local history and period shopping displays, authentic recreations  -all perfect for any petrol heads and lovers of local history.

They have some brilliant ‘special days’ such as ‘Classic Drive in and Ride Day’ where the proud owners of classic cars bring their vehicles to display in the museum car park, and you can browse around, take pictures and enjoy the atmosphere.  They welcome classic cars, trucks, vans and motorbikes, as well as more recent hot hatches, supermini’s and high performance sports cars.

There is also a shop, with all kinds of great gift ideas for enthusiasts and visitors.

Hints/tips: Maybe combine a visit with a cruise. They’re open every day except Christmas Day.  Book in advance and get 10% discount.  They also welcome school visits, classic vehicle clubs, and you can hire the whole place for a private event.

Why we like it: It’s a definite must for anyone who loves cars,  they do all sorts of great themed activity around Father’s day and for birthday or celebration options… For the youngsters, there’s a  fun quiz for the children to take part in;  and a the lovely riverside Café Ambio is a great stopping off point,  to whet your whistle in during your visit,  with beautiful views across the River Leven.
