Description

Troutbeck Bridge 0.4 miles.

Dovedale Lodge is a wonderful, single-storey retreat set in the heart of the Lake District National Park, near the small village of Troutbeck Bridge.

Boasting on-site facilities, a toasty electric fire, serene lake views of Windermere, and a bubbling hot tub, this well-equipped lodge welcomes family and friends, idyllic for a relaxing countryside getaway.

Inside, you will find a charming open-plan living space, where the designated chef can get to work in the kitchen, meal times can be enjoyed together around the dining table, and you can look forward to sinking into the sitting area afterward.

Here, you cuddle up with your loved ones and spend your nights watching movies on the Smart TV as the electric fire provides the perfect backdrop for quiet nights in.

After a day by the lake, head through the lodge to discover two pleasing bedrooms: a king-size with a convenient en-suite walk-in shower, and a family room with a single and bunk bed, so sleepy heads can catch their night's rest.

In the morning, freshen up in the family bathroom, where you can indulge in a bath or rinse off in the overhead shower.

On warm summer evenings, step outside and make the most of your privet decking.

Dine alfresco-style on the furniture provided, or savour a dip in the hot tub, all while the beautiful lake of Windermere glistens in the distance.

White Cross Bay is in one of the most lovely settings on the shores of Lake Windermere, with jetties and a marina and views of the magnificent fells all around.

On the Park itself, there is a bar and restaurant with an outdoor seating area, a picnic area, and a children’s play zone.

A short distance away up the main A591 is Brockhole Lake District Visitor Centre, with a great way to spend a day with gardens, house, café, restaurant, walks, boats, adventure playground and Tree Top Trek: there’s lots to do.

You’re also just two miles from bustling Windermere village with shops, cafes and pubs, and three miles from Bowness boat landings, where the elegant cruisers come in and you can hop on a boat trip and enjoy this cosmopolitan village with award-winning restaurants and pubs and quirky shops, a cinema and the ever-popular World of Beatrix Potter attraction.

Three miles in the other direction, head to Ambleside, another bustling town with shops, cafes, pubs, and restaurants, and of course, fabulous walks in every direction.

Two miles north on the A592 is the pretty village of Troutbeck, home to two traditional pubs with log fires, great food and ales: The Queens Head and the Mortal Man.

You’ll also discover beautiful Holehird Gardens and the National Trust’s fascinating Townend House.

Further on, you climb up to the magnificent Kirkstone Pass, then drop down to Brotherswater & Ullswater.

Dovedale Lodge is a fabulous base for your Lake District Adventure to begin.

Note: White Cross Bay holiday park near Troutbeck Bridge (not bookable with any others, but is on a site with other lodges).

I booked this fairly last minute and Dovedale Lodge happened to be one of the remaining available lodges.

I’m glad though as it was a wonderful place to stay. I came without a car and location wise it’s ideal if thats the case as there are plenty of options to get about easily, and you have decent options for shops close by. There’s a spar about 10 mins at most walking away, and the bus stop about 5 minutes away has fairly frequent buses that get you to most of the main local spots. The lodge itself is in a nice spot on the park, just near to the water’s edge, with a nearby spot with some benches where you can sit and get a great view out over the lake. The hot tub is great after a long day hiking in the lakes. The lodge on the whole is just a nice place to be. Can’t fault anything about it. Will definitely be looking to return to this lodge at some point.

Lodge was excellent overall.

Very clean and comfortable. The stone steps need a handrail - very difficult for my husband. Also the walk in shower was too small for him and he could not get into the bath. His limited mobility mean that I choose accommodation very carefully so it was disappointing that he could not use either shower.

The lodge was absolutely lovely, and it was clear that a great deal of thought and effort had gone into creating such a warm, homely, and cosy atmosphere.

We particularly appreciated all the little touches that made our stay feel extra special. The complimentary Prosecco and sweets were a lovely gesture. Although we don’t drink, we still thought it was a very thoughtful touch and appreciated the kindness behind it. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed, and the beds were comfortable, making the lodge a very relaxing place to stay. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend the lodge to others. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable!
