What guests are saying
We were dreading this holiday following all the recent negative reviews but 2 weeks prior to our arrival, I raised my concerns with the Customer Service team at Sykes and after several emails, texts, WhatsApp messages and unanswered phone calls, I did eventually get a response by email to say my concerns were being sorted by the owner.
When we arrived the whole lodge was spotless and everything was lovely and clean. We did notice a smell in the bathroom on the 1st day but didn't notice it the rest of the week. The hot tub cover was also replaced while we were there and also reassuring to see someone test the hot tub water several times throughout the week. I agree with some of the previous comments that the ceiling in the bedroom needs a coat of paint at the one end and maybe the bedroom with the bunk bed needs decorating to match the rest of the property but this is just cosmetic and didn't affect our holiday as the beds are comfy and clean. The only negative things that I can report on is the rug in the living room....it kept slipping on the wooden floor and seems to easily attract debris so we ended up rolling it away after the 1st day and put it back down when we left. The other thing was we had a power cut on our last night that lasted several hours...this obviously can't be helped but maybe a torch or a camping flashlight would be ideal in the lodge as it was really dark from 7pm until the early hours the following morning. Apart from that, we had a lovely week....although a bit wet weather wise. Thank you to the owner for addressing and sorting out previous issues that were raised and we wish you well with the future bookings. Credit should also be passed on to the new cleaner as it was spotless when we arrived.
The lodge was not clean and there was damage to the fridge trays and shelves it looked clean on surface but it needed to be cleaned before we could use it I phoned the office on arrival but was on hold for 25 minutes until the office was closed I then phoned back in the morning to be put on hold for 47 minutes in the morning a phoned on my wife phone and told your staff that I was still on hold on my phone and I was put on hold the only time your office will answer your call is when you ring the phone number to make a booking and not any issues it took a week to receive any information from the office we had left the lodge before I was contacted
Unfortunately in this case the pictures did the venue a solid because they looked very good until you actually arrived.
Wallpaper hanging off the walls in the living room and first bedroom. The smell throughout the lodge on arrival was absolutely foul and basically lasted the entire week as the drains were clearly blocked or in need of cleaning. No matter how much spray we used it wouldn’t clear. The vacuum cleaner wouldn’t work as we tried to use it after the second day but weren’t able to do so. The bedding was questionable at best and we all received bites throughout the week, on arrival my wife and I had to go around wiping down door handles and work tops because the level of cleaning that we arrived to was in all honesty was a joke. The lodge itself was quite nice, a bit dated yeah but nice enough. Issues were when you opened up the cupboards to see half the glasses and cups were dirty and the fridge/freezer was damaged inside and smelled very funky. We decided not to cook in the lodge and therefore didn’t chance using the pans or oven. The beds were comfy enough, the hot tub was nice enough but again the lid was broken and needed two people to take it off and put it on which was an inconvenience because you felt like you could cause more damage to it each time you moved it!. It also stated private garden, I opted for this because we were taken the dogs with us but it only meant private decking area as opposed to a small Section of grass where I thought I could let my dogs off, a better description would be advised I think. The lodge location was right next to the bin storage area too which wasn’t ideal as it was overflowing when we arrived Friday night and didn’t get collected until Monday afternoon and this was the view from the hot tub!. The bin inside the lodge was filthy as well with things stuck to the inside of it, obviously we used bin bags throughout our stay and I draw the line at cleaning someone else’s bin like that. I’ve genuinely never left a negative comment on any venue we’ve ever stayed in previously but this one was very frustrating for us as we’d all looked forward to this holiday for a long time after having our holiday in May to Turkey cancelled on us this then became our main priority.
