Milepost at Wheatsheaf

Brigsteer is a fantastic little village, in the South Lakes near to Levens and 20 minutes drive from Kendal. You’ll whizz by it on the A590 on your way west toward Ulverston, Newby Bridge or Barrow. It’s also on the Bay Cycle Way – the 80+ mile stretch from Barrow to Lancaster and a good place for a stop off.

It’s a gorgeous little village with one of the best pubs in the area – the Wheatsheaf, which is dog friendly, bike friendly, boots friendly and serves delicious home-made food and some fabulous beers and wines. Over the road is Brigsteer Village Hall which hosts all kinds of events and activities.

Dominated by 3 ‘scars’ – Scout Scar, Cunswick Scar and Whitbarrow Scar, the village clings to the side of the Lythe Valley – another beautiful hidden gem, home to rolling landscapes, damsons and fruit.

More fantastic pubs abound here – the Punch Bowl, the Black Labrador, and further out toward the Bowness Road – The Brown Horse at Winster, the Lythe Valley Hotel, and the Damson Dene hotel. You’re 20 minutes drive from the centre of Bowness, Windermere & Kendal.

Base yourself in Brigsteer and you’ll have loads of ideas to try for walking, cycling and eating and drinking opportunities!

The pod has a small kitchen, bathroom, bed and sofa – think hobbit hole with a view…
