As a family we love the lakes and each time we visit we like to stay somewhere different. Ramblers Rest is situated in a brilliant location of Bowness and a short drive from Ambleside and Grassmere and whilst on the whole the lodge served a purpose for the week I was disappointed on the cleanliness of it. When booking I requested a travel cot for my 15 month daughter (I had intended on bringing my own but I was very optimistic thinking I could get all of our belongings into a golf so assumed the travel cot would be fine), what we were left was disgusting; a travel cot stinking of damp and covered in live mould. I appreciate you take the risk when requesting these items with a constant flurry of guests but this is appalling to expect a child to sleep in this. Needless to say she didnt sleep in this. Another point was when we arrived we had a laminate left stating the lodge had been cleaned and sanitised to the governments standard etc, yet on the rim of the bath were the remains of previous guests body hair, an anti bac wipe got rid in one wipe. I found this on many surfaces, the only surface clean was the kitchen counter. Whilst I wouldnt recommend this lodge to my friends and family I wouldnt let this put you off booking as the lodge did its job for a week but maybe just dont expect too much with cleanliness, I clearly did (but then we are going through a pandemic)

The Cabin had a musky dog smell throughout so we had to buy air fresheners. We found used ear buds and dirty socks in twin room with also litter behind sofa . The double bed is so uncomfortable we cut our stay short because it was impossible to have a good nights sleep . The cabin is compact but has everything you need just spoilt by the issues above .
