Ambleside Climbing Wall

Located in the heart of Ambleside, Ambleside Climbing Wall/ Adventure Peaks is home to a 35ft climbing wall. It is a replica of a real crag providing climbers with the intricacy and excitement of real natural rock. So whether you are a complete novice, want to brush up on your skills, or a pro, this centre has something for all adventurers. There is also a small shop selling climbing products.

There is also the aptly named Café Altitude for those who don’t wish to partake where you can simply watch and actually look across to the wall from an elevated position.

Adventure Peaks (Located at ground level) offer a number of courses such as An Introduction to Scrambling or Improve your Navigation.

The centre also arranges guided walks to many of our famous fells, from Scafell Pike to Skiddaw. Joining an expert guide allows you to simply take in the scenery while someone else takes the map! Walks are graded and cost £50 per person, minimum of 3 people. Adventure are also well known for their overseas expeditions successfully summiting some of the world’s highest mountains. Booklets are knowledgeable staff inside the shop can help with this.

Tips/Hints: For those who simply wish to try climbing, the centre offers a taster session (£18 per person) which will introduce you to bouldering before heading to the wall to try climbing. This is great fun and perfect for beginners. If you would prefer to have an instructor to yourself, whether for a taster or even refresher, private sessions are also available.

The climbing wall is small so try and avoid busy times. The staff can help with this.

It’s also a great option for a rainy day!

Jen says “I prefer this wall as it’s a replica of a crag enabling you to not only use the holds but also the cracks and crevices to make more of an interesting climb”
