Coniston Launch

Coniston Launch has been sailing on Coniston Water since 1992 and operates a spectacular cruise around this beautiful lake.  They operate a regular service that offers two circular routes:  the ‘red route’ Northern Service is a 45 minute cruise with the option to hop off at places such as Brantwood, the former home of John Ruskin.

Alternatively, the Wild Cat Island cruise ‘yellow route’ is a 60 minute hop on, hop off cruise allowing you to make a full day of it and to explore nearly all of Coniston Water.  This route also means you can hop off and discover ‘Wild Cat Island’ as featured in the 1970s film Swallows and Amazons. The crew will give you lots of information on the stories around Coniston, including Swallows and Amazons, and the history of Donald Campbell.

Single sailings on Coniston Launch are also available, you just pay on board the boat.

All sailings are subject to local weather conditions. Dogs welcome for a small fee.

Tips/Hints: Book online for a discount and if you’re staying in the area for a while, you can book a 7 day ticket.

Do check the Coniston Launch website for their current timetable as the cruises operate seasonal sailings.

You can opt to stay on board for a leisurely cruise, or why not hop off and combine a walk with a cruise. There are many lovely walks right from the lake shore.

They also offer special cruises such as Swallows and Amazons and Campbells on Coniston. Advance booking recommended.  You can also book the launch for weddings and family celebrations.

Why we like it: Its always great to see the scenery from the water, and you can visit different areas around Coniston water taking in a walk or some of the local history.
