Keswick Launch

The Keswick Launch Company was formed in 1935 when many of the local boat operators merged.

Derwent Water, located in the Northern Lake District, is nestled amongst beautiful scenery including the iconic Cat Bells and Skiddaw, England’s fourth highest mountain, and you’ll get great views through the ‘Jaws of Borrowdale’ to the south of the lake.

It takes approximately 50 minutes to cruise around the lake, or, you can opt to hop on and hop off as much as you like at the 8 jetties and explore the local surroundings.

Keswick Launch Company operate a winter and summer timetable. Please see their website for dates and times. Their four launches have both open and covered decks. Single fares are also available should you wish to journey only part way around the lake.

Tips/Hints: There are 4 islands, all owned by the National Trust. You can explore these independently (Aside from Derwent Island which is a private residence) by hiring your own row or motor boat. Visitors are welcome to land on the islands should they wish.

Why we like it: We suggest hopping off at the jetties, especially the famous Ashness Bridge to capture that iconic photo or Lingholm where Beatrix Potter spent many a summer. There is also a fabulous café here to sit and enjoy afternoon tea and the views all around you.  Another great stop is Hawes End where you can walk through the woods at Brandelhow and find the famous ‘hands’ sculpture, which signifies the first piece of land bought by the National Trust in the Lake District, by public subscription back in 1895.
