Whilst Lowther Castle Cumbria was first commissioned by William, 1st Earl of Lonsdale in 1806, the story of Lowther, began over 850 years ago. You can discover and learn about this historic tale in Lowther’s fantastically vivid exhibition in The Courtyard Gallery.

Go wild at the Lowther Castle Adventure Playground

“The Lost Castle” is an impressive woodland world, built high into the Lowther tree canopy. One of the largest adventure playgrounds in the UK, the incredible structure is made from over 11 miles of sustainable timber and designed to echo the grand architecture of Lowther Castle Cumbria itself. Sure to capture the imagination of any young explorer- sit back and relax, as the kids clamber through the turrets, zip-wires, walkways and exhilarating slides, of the Lowther Castle Adventure Playground.

Why we love it: From the huge 16th century painting, by Flemish artist Frans Snyders in the Lowther Cafe, to the bespoke souvenirs available in the on-site gift shop- the artistic flair and thoughtful attention to detail that is found in every aspect of Lowther Castle, is incredibly charming. You can even buy yourself some of Lowthers homemade honey!

Tips/hints: Feeling peckish, but unable to reel your little explorers away from Lowther Castle Adventure Playground? Then, you’ll be glad to know that Lowther’s outdoor cafe, “Into the Woods”, is just around the corner. Serving up an array of warm light bites and tasty treats- we definitely recommend you make a quick pitstop, to fuel yourselves for the day.
