Why not visit Fitz Park, Keswick during your stay! Fitz Park is a public park and recreation ground just a short stroll from the centre of Keswick. With the River Greta flowing to one side and the majestic Skiddaw massif in the background, it’s certainly a very picturesque setting in which to escape the hustle and bustle of town. There is plenty of wide open space for playing, running or dog walking.
Facilities include a floodlit multi-use ball games area which is perfect for a game of football or tennis. You may even catch one of the local cricket or football teams in play who regularly use the area for training and matches.
The riverside setting is ideal for picnics on those glorious sunny days.
Not far from the museum on Station Road, is a well thought out playground with all sorts of fun and stimulating activities from climbing, sliding, balancing and even a zip line. The playground has been laid out with three key age groups in mind, toddler, junior and teen. The toddler area has a sand surfacing – not only safer but great fun too! Plus there are plenty of benches for the grown ups. The area is enclosed providing a safe haven for little ones.
Upper Fitz Park has a more formal landscape as well as an 18 hole putting green, croquet and bowls lawn.
For the bike enthusiasts, there is a BMX and MTB Pump Track offering a variety of challenges such as rollers and berm corners for those in the know! It has been designed for beginners to advanced bikers and can be found to the rear of the football pavilion.
Tips/hints: Bring a bucket and spade to enjoy the sand in the toddler area. Why not visit Cafe West, located on the edge of Fitz Park, Station Road for some delicious food and drinks. There are usually a number of events that take place in Fitz Park such as the Keswick Midsummer Festival, Keswick Scruffs and the Lakeland Trails. It’s definitely worth checking out their Facebook page for updates.
Why we love it: We think Fitz Park is a wonderful area for both residents and visitors to enjoy, with the benefit of being just a short distance from the charming market town of Keswick. Some of our staff regularly visit Keswick and stroll through the park with a coffee from town. It’s a relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
