The Mortal Man is a traditional Lakeland pub, set in a gorgeous location, in a traditional and mainly unchanged Lakeland valley. Here you’ll enjoy log fires, cask ales, malt whisky and wine, along with home-cooked food. In the summer there is a beer garden where you can sit and contemplate a walk or a visit somewhere, with a pint and enjoy the views.
Set high in the Troutbeck Valley there’s a beer garden with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. It’s a dog friendly too so take your best friend along too for a bite to eat and a beer!
The Troutbeck valley itself is a beautiful spot – with much traditional Lakeland architecture including the fantastic Townend, owned by the National Trust, and the home of the farming family, the Brownes for generations.
There are also fantastic walks all around the valley straight from the doorstep of the pub – straight up to High Street on one side, up to Wansfell on the other. Wansfell is perfect for a beginner, wanting a small challenge on their first visit, and takes you over the tops to Ambleside. If you just want to potter, get into the village of Troutbeck, and have a look at the old church, and through the tiny lanes.
