The bustling town centre of Bowness is in a great spot on the shores of Windermere and is distinct from the town of Windermere 1.5 miles up the road. Bowness originally means ‘the headland where the bull grazes’ though nowadays its more like the headland where the swans glide and the boats run from. It was the centre of the boat building industry in the 19th century and grew into a central spot for hotels and guest houses when the Victorians began to discover the Lakes.
If you like your Swallows and Amazons, Bowness was the lakeside town of ‘Rio’. It is also home to the World of Beatrix Potter, the Old Laundry Theatre, and a host of shops, restaurants, bars and cafes.
Fallbarrow Park is ideally situated being within walking distance of Bowness.
